A gift of appreciated stock doesn’t deplete your cash reserve, helps you avoid capital gains tax, and provides you with a tax deduction. If you would like to make a gift of stock, please contact our Executive Director by emailing director@lexingtonhistory.org or calling 781-862-1703 and share with us:
- Your complete contact information (name, snail mail address, phone number, email address)
- A description of the shares you would like to donate
- The date you plan to make your donation
- Whether the value of the stock has increased and has been held for more than a year
Note: You can receive a charitable tax deduction for the fair market value of your donated shares if you have owned the shares for more than a year. If stocks have been held for less than a year, your deduction is limited to the cost-basis, or what you paid for the stock. If you are giving private stock, you will need to have the shares appraised by a broker or financial institution to determine the fair market value. -
Lexington Historical Society is always searching for materials that document the history of Lexington!

Please note that we are able to receive donations by appointment only. We can only accept donations from individuals who have legal possession of the items being donated.
We kindly request that any donated items be in good condition and have a strong connection to Lexington and those who have lived here. Unfortunately, our collection policy does not allow us to accept items that do not have a Lexington provenance.

Conservation
2024 Conservation Projects
This year’s items spotlighted for conservation focus on both American and British items related to the military in the Revolutionary War. Items include a British Army blanket recovered after the Siege of Boston, and a vest and breeches worn by William Munroe, tavern keeper at Munroe Tavern, during Shays’ Rebellion in the 1780s. Can you help us raise the necessary funds to conserve these treasures?
Donations are one of the most important tools we have to ensure the items in our collection are preserved for the future. Conservation work can include cleaning, repairs and stabilization of a variety of materials, slowing deterioration and removing dirt, mold, and insects. Items are then housed in specialized acid-free boxes that ensure their longevity.

Seasonal Appeal
Every year we count on people like you to give unrestricted operating support so that we can carry out our mission of being the premier interpreter of the events of April 1775, and the faithful steward of all the town’s history through time. We have increased the number of temporary exhibitions we present each year, adding multi-sensory interpretive elements to our museums, and have expanded our robust schedule of programs and events so that there is something for everyone who is curious about history.

The Depot Transformation
The Depot as it stands now is a blank slate. It is in the very center of town, both highly visible and accessible. It can and should be an epicenter for history education, serving not only Lexington but the nation. The transformed Depot will be a starting point for visitors, a program space for people of all ages, and a unique rental venue. Exhibitions will display the richness of the area’s history, from First People's to today’s Lexingtonians. Be a part of the transformation, and give today!
